For Immediate Release (Toronto, June 10, 2009): Naomi Hiltz's latest documentary "Kanako: Challenging The System", has been chosen to premiere at the Vancouver Out On Screen Film Festival on August 22, 2009. Out On Screen is one of the leading GLBT film festivals in the world. The doc will air on OUTTV following the Out on Screen premiere. "Kanako: Challenging The System", is the true story of Japanese gay political candidate Kanako Otsuji, as she campaigns to become the first gay Japanese Senator. The story follows her campaign trail throughout Japan 17 days before the election. The documentary also examines the Japanese grass roots political system as compared to the multi-million dollar campaigns Canadian and American politicians run. The film was funded by OUTTV in conjunction with HERE! Networks in the United States. Wendy Donnan, former VP Programming and Acquisitions for OUTTV says, "This is one of those documentaries that has a good chance to make a difference.” Hiltz recently directed two hit gay television series, which have been sold to various channels around the world. ‘I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU’ starring Trevor Boris (Video On Trial) and ‘FAIRY TALE’ the world's first gay dating show. Hiltz Squared is also well known in the entertainment industry for their first feature JACK'S HOUSE, which was shot in less than 24 hours. "Gay rights in Japan today remain where the United States was over a decade ago. Legal rights for same-sex couples are still taboo in this conservative country." says Executive Producer Jonathan Hiltz. Naomi and Jonathan are the co-founders of Hiltz Squared Media Group, which specializes in production, distribution and also acts as an international sales agent.
